Got this for my son for his birthday. Pretty solid instrument for the price. Was pretty much ready to go out of the box with a couple of minor tweaks. Really hard to beat the product for the price.

As a woman in my 70's, I bought this kid's bass after seeing several positive reviews where I could see an adult playing it, who said it could be good for older folks. I'm taking a jazz group and decided to replace my u-bass with this. My husband is a professional bassist and I'm a pianist. We set out to find a short scale bass that our daughter could use to learn the bass. The bass guitars we own are way too big for her to be comfortable with as she's still a young child. After reading tons of reviews and watching so many videos, we decided to try this one. So we ordered it, albeit with some trepidation. We received it yesterday and my husband is surprised that it is actually better than he thought it would be. It does need a professional setup to make it true tonality wise, but he can do that himself. However, one could actually begin learning on this instrument even without that. One of the frets does have a sharp edge, also something that is easily taken care of. He plugged it into his Fender Bassman 800-watt amp and he was happy with the sound he got with this micro bass. We chose the natural finish because I am thinking of adding a dark blue cosmic vinyl skin to make it into a very nice bass for our daughter to use for learning & studying the bass guitar. Overall, my husband and I think that it was worth what we paid for it. The adjustments are not a deal-breaker as he likes the challenge. And this is a real instrument! There are several well-known artists who use a short scale bass due to the difference in sound as compared to a standard bass guitar. So we're keeping this one and hope that it will become a part of our musical family.

After a week of allowing the bass to acclimate to its new home, making daily small adjustments to the truss rod, it was brought into decent relief. Daily applications of Neck Honey brought back the fretboard to acceptable condition. I leveled, crowned, and polished the frets. All of this effort was rewarded with a very ea ...

All of this effort was rewarded with a very easy playing and fun instrument that is great for a guitar player who occasionally picks up a bass, like me. After the basics of playability had been addressed I decided that it would be nice to have a more gutsy tonal palate on tap, so I added a MusicMan-style humbucker in place of the bridge pickup,coil split wiring, a five-way switch, master volume and separate push-pull tone pits that select caps for different tone coloring. Probably not a project that a novice would want to undertake, but it does provide an example of what can be done with this bass. The basic "bones" are good, materials solid, fit and finish is OK - nothing to complain about at this price point. Good instrument for kids or adults looking for a short scale bass.

Neither I or my grand daughter have guitar experience, so this purchase was based more on wants, needs and price for an introduction. It must have been a winner! She got it out of the box and started to play it immediately, and her mother indicates it sounds very good. (I am in another state). She loves the Red color, and says it had no visual imperfections or issues. From order to arrival was less than 5 days.

As a girl who is more on the petite end of the spectrum I can say that this bass works pretty good from a beginners perspective its my first bass and ive been able to reach all the frets just fine. Although its definitely up to a standard far past beginner I have enjoyed its size and weight discounting the non even distribution there of.

I am working on some summer projects well away from my studio and struggled finding someone who could lower the bridge and improve the action on the acoustic electric bass available. On a hunch, I bought a whole new guitar hoping the action was better and it is both perfect and adjustable. Easier to play than my full size guitars as the frets are closer together. Sounds great. I'll be buying another one for the other coast soon and maybe a third to stay in the back of the car with the Pig Nose a ...

7 year old loves it! This is not a toy. This is a real bass and guess what? It sounds amazing. Set it up to your liking and this thing is a ton of fun to play with. Has pickup volumes and so far, no issues. We truly love this bass.

A Glarry short scale bass in natural finish was delivered on time. All it needed was a setup like any new bass. A couple fret ends needed a little filing and action lowered, but that is no big deal. I decided to put flat wound strings on it. What a deal.

I purchased this childs/beginners bass specifically for camping. It's hilariously bad, but it's perfect for what I want. And I know how to fix most of the problems to make it work correctly. I'm currently thinking of this more like a kit than a finished instrument. * The body of the instrument has a *very* thin layer of color and no lacquer or varnish, and there are a lot of cross-grain scratches which can't be fixed without removing the dye. The scratches are the only non-repairable flaw. ...

I'm currently thinking of this more like a kit than a finished instrument. * The body of the instrument has a *very* thin layer of color and no lacquer or varnish, and there are a lot of cross-grain scratches which can't be fixed without removing the dye. The scratches are the only non-repairable flaw. There is also "fuzz" from routing the edges of the instrument. I used fine sandpaper to knock off the rough spots -- it removed some of the layer of color giving it a "weathered look" -- then sprayed on a couple coats of matte varnish. * None of the chambers in the body have any shielding, which can be fixed with copper tape. Easy, just time-consuming. Don't forget to add a grounding wire for the shielding. * Setup - every single adjustment was wrong, but easy to fix, and most of the tools needed are included: The nut height was wildly high... so high that low F would go sharp when fretted. This needs to be filed with a tiny, round "Swiss File," or work carefully with sandpaper. The truss rod was so tight it had the neck in a back-bow, causing huge amounts of string buzzing. Saddle heights were too low. Intonation was random, but at least the bridge is in the right place and can be adjusted. The pickups were sunk much too far into the body (like, 10 mm from the strings! Should be 3mm!) The narrow piece of foam wouldn't push them out when I tried to adjust the height. The included gig bag is a single layer of nylon, with no padding. I had low expectations for the gig bag and they were met. On a positive note, the tuners are surprisingly smooth, with a light touch from the 22:1 gear ratio. Nota bene: scale length is 25.5". This isn't mentioned in the description, and you need to know this if you plan to replace the strings at any time.

Fun, with surprisingly decent sound for the $ Body (while tiny) is much thicker than it could be - and considerably thicker than most full-sized instruments. Neck and fretboard are well made. Electronics and output jack are sub par.

Pictures are much nicer than what I received. Red paint is opaque (not transparent like pictures), dull finish, even paint drip in the front. It didn't make much of a difference compared to my other 30" piccolo basses. But it still sounded good. My biggest concern is the finish on the bass. It's almost as if it's the bare, unfinished wood, but not quite. While lack of finish does improve the sound of a bass (more resonance), too little finish makes the wood susceptible to dirt, grime, and stains. This natural wood finish doesn't seem to have much of a coating on it. That's my only complaint. April 29, 2024 Update: I returned the natural wood version of this bass and replaced it with the red one. The red one has a much nicer, and apparently more durable finish than the natural wood one. I compared them side by side and the red one outshone the natural wood one by a long shot. So, I think this is a very good, playable regular bass for someone starting out or who has small hands. It makes a mighty fine piccolo for a regular scale bass player took and looks and sounds just fine.

Update December 2023: I really do like this bass. I thought I'd make some upgrades to make it better. Tried changing the pickups but these are slightly smaller than standard Jazz Bass pickups and since I don't want route the body I stuck with the stock pickups but changed the wiring and pots. These stock pickups are actually heftier and better built that the replacements I bought. I changed the tuners with a set that would allow me to use better strings. The strings that came with it were not that good but were tapered properly to his scale. On any other string set the E string is to fat to fit the stock tuner. I found a set that let me install a set of LaBella low tension flats. Even the strings were short scale, the fat part of the string still had to go into the tuners. Worked okay on the low E but surprisingly the A string snapped. Got lucky and had enough to try again. So now I've got this Baby Bass with flat wounds on it and I love it! Update August 2024 - FYI Gold Tone Micro Bass strings are the perfect size for this bass. String wrap at the end is the perfect length. I put on a set of their flatwound strings and they are awesome. The Baby Bass sounds even better now.

I will start this review by saying I am not a bass player. I am a guitarist of 33 years, and a drummer for even longer. I have a small studio and have owned several bass guitars through the years. I play good enough to confidently play my own bass tracks in the studio. With that said, I am in the process of recovering an album and needed some bass. I had chosen a nice 5 string that was significantly more expensive than this one. However, I ran across this guy about a year agoI play Fender strat style guitars so the 25.5 inch scale length sounded great to me, but when I opened the box there were no words! It is so small! Upon initial inspection, it looks good. There are no sharp frets. The back of the neck is kinda rough, but a lite sanding took care of that. The jack plate doesn't quite fit the curve of the body. I removed it and bent slightly to fit the body better. The red finish is flawless. It is a matte finish with no pore fill so you can feel the grain. It was not in tune so I tuned it up. The tuners feel a little loose. I may replace them. The action is somewhat high. The intonation isn't even close, and the neck has a little too much relief. I then let it acclimate overnight. The neck straightened out close to perfect. A little tweak on the truss rod and it is good. I adjusted the saddles and set the intonation. All of this took roughly 15 minutes. I have to say, it is one of the best playing bass guitars I've had the pleasure of playing. The strings are super heavy so the bass tunes to standard tuning. No string flop whatsoever! The pickups sound like bass single coils. 2 volume and 1 tone. It has a lot of versatility. I threw a strap on it and it is perfectly balanced. No neck dive. I don't own a bass amp. I record direct with amp simulators. I plugged it into my guitar amp just for the fun of it. A Vox AC20 clone. Kicked the fuzz and the phaser pedals on and just cracked up laughing at how awesome this little bass is!

It's great for the price. However, keep in mind that it comes unadjusted, so it's hard to tune at first. I had to spend some minutes trying to get it done.
