The bow was in good condition, no loose hairs. It just needed a lot of rosin, as expected for new bows. I had to use some bass rosin to start it off - it's very thick and strong. Thank you for the quality instrument!!

Swapping the mouthpiece for a Clark W Fobes Debut Student one made all the difference. I can't put it down, much to my wife's annoyance!

Great set for the money. However, it does have a hard time tuning and doesn't stay in tune very quickly. I later found that I needed to push the tuning pegs harder to maintain tuning. Hope it can be improved.

The guitar looks nice and the functionality is solid. However, the pick guard is a printed texture "red pearl" which isn't a big deal. The deal breaker is the mirror-backed plastic piece that covers the volume knob and the cable jack. It looks like metal in the picture (and like every other guitar on the market, cheap or expensive, it should be). This piece of plexiglass is the Achille's heel of the whole rig. Good violin for the price but not looking like the picture. The description of GV403 says matte finish, but it clearly is not. Sounds decent for a beginner. Overall a great value for someone who wants to try out the violin without spending a lot of money.

PERFECT. My son insisted on violin lessons. "Are you sure?" I asked. "Are you really sure?" "Yes" and "yes" and "yes" again. So I bought this violin and my son got a kick out of it. It comes in a beautiful set with all the accessories. A perfect beginners package. His teacher got a kick out of it, too, and said it was just fine to get started.

Don't expect it to be ready to play right from the box. You could do it, but with a little help from someone with basic guitar tech knowledge you'll have a much better instrument. Not just better than when it arrived, but better than most options under $850 or so. Sure, the pickups aren't quite MiM strat, but they're not bad at all. Unboxed a couple wks after purchase (moving), upon unboxing I received the wrong bass. I ordered the burning fire with the blk bridge,knobs and the humbucker style pickups I prefer. The nut was loose, and the pickups were missing 1 screw. I fixed these issues myself, tuned up and the sound will get you in the right direction.
